About the moral aspects of forgetting

Hello,

We are Freek and Zoë, two dutch students and we are working on a school project about actively forgetting.

Our survey is about the moral aspects and concequences of actively forgetting

Filling out this survey won't take long, and it'll help us out a lot. The results will be anonymous, and only used for our project.

Thanks in advance!

What gender are you?

What is your age?

Do you ever forget something?

Have you ever forgotten something you shouldn’t have/wish you hadn’t

Do you believe a person can forget something forever?

Have you ever wanted to forget something on purpose?

What sort of memory did you want to forget? (if you answered 'no' on the previous question, you can skip this one)

Do you mind answering a few more in-depth questions?

It is said that memories make a person to who he/she is, so altering one’s memories (by means of forgetting) could change who he/she is. This concept raises ethical questions. In a hypothetical future, where people have the ability to forget whatever they want, do you think it is morally correct for a person to alter his own memories?

In another hypothetical future, a person is able to alter someone else his memory (again, my means of forgetting), and therefore change this person. Do you think this is morally correct?

What do you think someone's motives could be to alter someone else his memories?

Do you think that certain institutions can exploit this ability for their own goods?

Do you think this is dangerous?

What do you think that will happen if this concept were to become reality?
