How to get good answers

  • Ask the children, not the parents. Parents report what they are told at home, which is a very short version.
  • Keep the wording simple and the scale visual. A smiley scale gets honest answers from a nine-year-old; a rating out of ten does not.
  • Ask about time and queues, not just about the food. Half of uneaten lunches are a timetable problem, not a cooking problem.
  • Run it in the canteen during lunch. A link sent home comes back from the six most organised families.
