Altars and Saints for freedom

Hi! My name is Sissela Nordling Blanco, I'm a visual storyteller working on stories about hope, sorrow, fear and faith departing from feminist, queer and decolonial perspectives. In a time marked by war, increased racism and threats to human rights, I want to create altars and saints that can act as a companion to us during difficult times. My aim is to document contemporary problems through images of saints and miracles that we imagine together. I hope you want to contribute to that through this short survey. As thanks for your participation I offer you a sketch of your saint.

This is part of my degree project in the master programme Visual Communication at Konstfack University of Arts, Crafts and Design.

Altars and Saints for freedom
1

If you had a patron saint, what would it be like?

Describe at least 3 characteristics and 3 visible attributes (A slutty dress? A raised black fist? A rainbow flag? A peace dove resting on their shoulder? Maybe they're cutting their hair off, maybe they're holding a watermelon?)
2

Wish a miracle: what problem would you like your saint to solve?

Small or big, high and low, all wishes are allowed (it could be anything from your sister getting well to Jimmy Åkesson getting stuck on a desert island)
3

Do you have any kind of altar at home? What do you have there?

Think of an altar in the broadest sense: a place where you collect things that are precious to you, it could be a shelf where you put your finest stone or a picture of your grandmother
