Dear participant,
Postpartum hemorrhage (PPH) is one of the leading causes of maternal mortality worldwide, especially in low-resource settings like Uganda. Accurate blood loss estimation is crucial for timely intervention, but in many hospitals, including Arua Regional Referral Hospital (ARRH), blood loss is estimated visually. Research shows that visual estimation alone is often inaccurate, sometimes underestimating actual blood loss by up to 30%. This can lead to delayed treatment and increased maternal complications.
To address this issue, this project aims to develop a scientifically supported and practical tool to improve blood loss estimation. The tool is designed to fit the local conditions of ARRH, where women bring their own cloths and plastic sheets, and resources for objective measurement are limited. The goal is to support midwives in recognizing and managing PPH more effectively, ultimately reducing maternal mortality.
