CONSENT TO PARTICIPATE IN RESEARCH 


Recent Graduate Perceptions in Cardiovascular & Pulmonary Competencies in Entry-Level DPT Programs


You are being asked to participate in a student-driven research study conducted by DPT students from Springfield College in Springfield, MA. The study seeks to identify the extent to which recent graduates perceive their competencies in cardiovascular & pulmonary content (CVP PT) within DPT programs. This study is being coordinated with leadership from the APTA Academy of Cardiovascular & Pulmonary Physical Therapy (“Academy”), with the results to be used as part of a broader revalidation of the Entry-Level Physical Therapist Competencies in Cardiovascular & Pulmonary Physical Therapy published by the Academy in 2022 (2022 Academy CVP PT Entry-Level Competencies). Your participation in the study is voluntary. You should read the information below and ask questions about anything that you do not understand, before deciding whether to participate. 


PURPOSE OF THE STUDY: The purpose of this survey is to gain an understanding of how recent graduates perceive their competency in CVP PT, compared with those areas listed as proficient in the 2022 Academy CVP PT Entry-Level Competencies . 


PROCEDURES: If you agree to participate in this study, you will be asked to complete a one-time, online survey via Google Forms. This survey will take approximately for completion. 


POTENTIAL RISKS AND DISCOMFORTS: Participation in this study poses minimal risk. All participant responses are confidential and only unidentifiable clinical rotation and demographic data will be collected. Confidentiality of all participants will be maintained throughout the duration of the study. When presented at conferences or published in manuscript form, only aggregate data will be used. All data will be stored on a password protected server maintained by the researcher’s academic institution. 


ANTICIPATED BENEFITS TO SUBJECTS AND SOCIETY: Participants will not directly benefit from participation in this study. Results from this study will be used as part of a broader revalidation of the 2022 Academy CVP PT Entry-Level Competencies and/or inform revisions to the next iteration of entry-level PT competecy documents published by the Academy. 


PRIVACY AND CONFIDENTIALITY: The records of this study will be kept private. When the results of the research are published or discussed in conferences, no information will be included that would reveal your identity. Only the primary investigator will have access to the research records. While no web-based action is perfectly secure, reasonable efforts will be made to protect your transmission from third-party access. No information about you will be disclosed to others without your written permission, except (a) if necessary to protect your rights or welfare, or (b) if required by law. 


PARTICIPATION AND WITHDRAWAL: Choosing to participate in this study is VOLUNTARY. Your decision to participate or not participate will not affect your current or future relationships with the investigators, Springfield College or the Academy. If you choose to participate, you are free to withdraw your consent and discontinue participation at any time without prejudice. To withdraw at any time up until the point you submit your survey, simply close your web browser. Since your identity is unknown to the investigators, once you complete the survey, your answers cannot be withdrawn.
