Reserve, Resilience & Protective Factors, data sharing project

As part of an initiative of the PIA on Reserve, Resilience and Protective Factors, we propose a new data sharing project. The major aim is to exchange data sets and analysis methods to powerfully test concepts of reserve capacity in Alzheimer’s disease.

High-impact ideas are those that hold true when tested across different data sets. To enable hypothesis testing and cross-validation in large data samples, we will establish a neuropsychological, MRI and PET data registry. Each center is asked to provide basic information on those data they may share. You find the link to the online survey on basic information of existing data sets here, which should take no longer than 5 min to complete:

Unlike other large-scale multicenter projects, we will NOT upload data into a joined data bank. Sharing data is not obligatory. Rather, the registry open to all PIA members will include meta-data on those data sets that may be shared upon request by PIA member. Triggered by a research proposal of any PIA member, centers may agree to share data for collaboration. There will be no steering committee to approve proposals. Rather, a particular PIA member who proposes a project sends the proposal to each member of the PIA. Thus, project-specific agreements among centers will be formed to enter a collaboration in an effort to enhance statistical power and replicate results across different matching data sets.
