Hydro Hub Concept Survey 2025

Hi,

This survey is to obtain your views and opinions on the proposed restoration of the redundant hydro building at the Old Dee Bridge on Riverside Drive near Handbridge.

The project has 3 aims, to:

1. Promote education and career paths in the green economy - good jobs for local people. The Chester area is to lead the UK on decarbonising the economy.

2. Raise public awareness of how to decarbonise homes, energy, industry and transport.

3. Provide a future for this historic building, continuing a centuries long journey of sustainable energy and jobs on the River Dee.

The building can have 4 uses, as an:

Educational facility - Heat & electricity generator - Visitor attraction - Daytime cafe/bistro

You can have your say on HOW we can deliver this!

This survey should only take around 3 minutes.

Thankyou!

Do you think the Hydro Hub should have?

We have now established the site is not the best for generating electricity. It was great 100 years ago, but there are cheaper and better ways to do it now.

Heating homes and businesses is one of our biggest users of energy in the UK. Taking heat from the river using new technology to supply homes and businesses direct could make better and more efficient use of the building. The technology is already used in Scotland and Europe.
