Carbon footprint research

The carbon footprint refers to the climate burden caused by a product, activity or service. How much greenhouse gas is produced during the life cycle of a product or activity.

Greenhouse gases are mainly produced by the use of fossil fuels and land use, accelerate global warming and degrade air quality, which is harmful to people.

The average Finnish citizen has a carbon footprint of 10 tonnes per year. A globally sustainable carbon footprint would be around 1 tonne per year. Moderation in consumption is a very effective way to keep an individual's carbon footprint affordable.
