*Trigger warning* Domestic abuse.

Imagine someone has been in an abusive relationship that lasted six years.

During the relationship with the abuser, the victim was hit in their sleep. The abuser attempted to run them over with a car, attempted to strangle them and secluded them from everyone they knew. They felt on edge all the time and was often made to feel embarrassed in public. The abuser would constantly tell lies and make the victim feel like everything was in their head, leaving them to question what was reality and what was lies. The abuser said they couldn’t help their behaviour due to having PTSD and so continued to be physically, emotionally and sexually abusive.
