Study title

A study of the dominant reason as to why many young consumers in the UK are loyal to the brand Nike.

Invitation Paragraph

You are being asked to take part in a research study. Before you decide, it is important for you to understand why the research is being done and what it will involve. Please take time to read the following information carefully and discuss it with others if you wish. All participants may ask questions if there is anything that is not clear or if you would like more information. Take time to decide whether you wish to take part. Thank you.

What is the purpose of the study?

This study is designed to understand whether young people are loyal to the brand Nike for emotional or rational reasons. The aim is to produce results that will allow researchers to understand the most prominent factor in young people deciding to be loyal to Nike. The results will provide Nike with valuable information about how to retain customers by understanding why they remain loyal, despite having other options. This questionnaire should take you no more than 15 minutes to complete.

Why have I been invited to participate?

You have been invited to participate in this study as you more than likely fit the criteria for participation based on your age, and the area in which you live . Requirements for this study are that all participants must be between the ages of 18-27, and live in the UK. Overall, 200 participants will be participating in this study by completing this questionnaire.

Do I have to take part?

As participation is entirely voluntary, it is up to you to decide whether or not to take part. If you do decide to take part, you will be given this information sheet to keep and you may be asked to sign a consent form. If you decide to take part, you are still free to withdraw at any time up until 18/07/21 and without having to give a reason.

What will happen to me if I take part?

Taking part in this research requires you to honestly complete a questionnaire consisting of thirteen questions. Your anonymous data will be collected, analysed, and retained to complete a thesis due to be handed in in late September. During the questionnaire you are required to answer three demographic related questions, and nine other questions relating to Nike and loyalty. The questions are open ended and therefore encourage all participants to write detailed responses within the 500 word cap. There are no questions that a reasonable person would find intrusive or inappropriate within this questionnaire.

Are there any lifestyle restrictions?

There are no lifestyle restrictions in this study.

What are the possible disadvantages and risks of taking part?

There are no anticipated disadvantages or risks associated with taking part in this study.

What are the possible benefits of taking part?

There are no intended benefits for participants.

What if something goes wrong?

Although this is highly unlikely, should something go wrong such as an unauthorised person obtaining any data, you as a participant are entitled to contact the Brunel Research Ethics committee to file a complaint. Queries should be directed in the first instance, to my Brunel Supervisor Dr Grahame (Grahame.Fallon@brunel.ac.uk), or myself as the researcher (1720069@brunel.ac.uk). Complaints, on the other hand should be directed, in the first instance, to the Chair of the Research Ethics Committee - Professor David Gallear (David.Gallear@brunel.ac.uk) should you wish to do so.

Will my taking part in this study be kept confidential?

All information which is collected about you during the course of the research will be kept strictly confidential. Any information about you which leaves the University will have all your identifying information removed. With your permission, anonymised data will be stored and may be used in future research – you can indicate whether or not you give permission for this by way of the Consent Form.

Will I be recorded, and how will the recording be used?

No participants will be recorded during this study.

What will happen to the results of the research study?

The results taken from this study will be presented in a master’s final year thesis. This thesis will be handed in by the end of September of 2021.Therefore, data will be analysed and obtained up until this point. Beyond this, all data will be destroyed including any copies made. No participants will be identified within this thesis.
