Starting in 2028-2029, furniture products sold into the EU will need a Digital Product Passport, a digital record of materials, origin, and end-of-life info. We're surveying how prepared the furniture/design sector is for this.
Starting in 2027, you cannot sell certain products in Europe without a Digital Product Passport. By 2030, this will apply to nearly every high-impact category. The DPP isn’t optional. Furniture will also be impacted by 2028-2029. From that year, the first wave of mandatory DPPs will kick in, following the European Commission’s ESPR Working Plan 2025–2030.
This initiative, part of the Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation, aims to enhance transparency across product value chains by providing comprehensive information about each product’s origin, materials, environmental impact, and disposal recommendations. The DPP is designed to close the gap between consumer demands for transparency and the current lack of reliable product data.
