Hi! This survey is about how people express politeness when speaking different languages or interacting with different cultures.
Politeness here means how we show respect or friendliness in communication — like saying
“please,” being more formal, or softening a request.
There are two main ways people often do this:
• Positive politeness means trying to be friendly and make the other person feel liked or
included (e.g., “Hey, you’re so good at this — can you help me?”).
• Negative politeness means being careful not to bother the other person or be too direct (e.g., “Sorry to bother you, but would you mind helping me?”).
Whether you speak more than one language, have lived abroad, or both – we’d love to hear your experiences! The survey takes about 8–10 minutes, and all answers are anonymous. Thank you for participating <3
