Project Title: Should more focus be placed on intrinsic painting when colouring a realistic silicone nose prosthetic for someone of a fair skin tone with a time limit of one week?
My name is Katherine Stockdale and I am a student currently studying at the University of Bolton. I have been conducting a research project into exploring silicone painting techniques.
Intrinsic painting consists of mixing pigment into uncured (liquid) silicone before it is made into a prosthetic, whereas extrinsic painting involves painting the outside of the prosthetic once the silicone has hardened. The aim of this project is to investigate which painting methods create the most realistic finish on a silicone prosthetic
What does this survey involve?
This survey will include images of prosthetic noses I have created using a combination of both intrinsic and extrinsic painting methods, along with the reference images of the complexions I aimed to replicate when colouring the noses. The questions aim to discover which prosthetic noses look the most similar to the reference images.
Do I have to take part?
Taking part in this survey is completely voluntary and anonymous. If you don’t want to take part, you do not have to give a reason and no pressure will be put on you to try and change your mind. You can also withdraw from the survey at any time.
What will happen to the information I provide?
All the information you provide will be confidential and used for the purposes of this study only. The data will be collected and stored in accordance with the Data Protection Act 1998.
